Oleta Goodman Smith
Services Wednesday GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. - Oleta Goodman Smith, 86, of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and formerly of Kerrville, entered into eternal rest to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 22, 2003, at Glen Valley Care Center. She was born to Claude and Elizabeth Huddleston Goodman in Sevier County, Ark., on Feb. 28, 1916. After completing her education in Milfay, Okla., she married Jewel D. Smith in Kingfisher, Okla., on Jan. 19, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1997, in Kerrville. While Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and mother, she was Mr. Smith's supporter as he maintained his career as a manager for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. Oleta and Jewel spent their working years in Tulsa, Okla. (1947-1968), and Houston (1968-1990), before retiring to Kerrville in 1990. After the loss of Mr. Smith in 1997, Mrs. Smith moved to Glenwood Springs to be near her daughter. Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville, where she was active in many areas of the church. She also loved sewing and playing bridge.
She is survived by her son, Gerald D. Smith, of St. Charles, Mo.; her daughter, Ann Neal and husband, Dr. Billy Neal, of Edwards, Colo.; two brothers, Robert Goodman of Orangevale, Calif., and John Goodman of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Jean Smith, of Houston; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.
The visitation will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. Funeral services will be at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, with Chaplain Louis Parks officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kerrville. Online register book tributes may be sent to the family at www.kerrvillefuneralhome.com.
