Omar Darrell Spencer
Services for Omar Darrell Spencer will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011, in Cotile Baptist Church, with Rev. Johnny Miller and Rev. Sonny Murphy officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by Fort Polk, LA. Arrangements are under the direction of John Kramer & Son. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
In memory of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Darrell Spencer, 69, of Boyce, passed away October 26, 2011, in CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
He is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Bessie Burke Herring and George I. Herring and his best friend, Jerry W. Branch.
Darrell was born in Bunkie, Louisiana on July 31, 1942 to Omar P. Spencer and Bessie Burke Herring. He was a MSGT E-8 (Retired) Veteran of the United States Army. He served three tours in Vietnam receiving the Purple Heart (combat wounded) and the Bronze Star (two for valor and two for meritorious service). He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Darrell was self-employed as a Truck Driver, worked as a Millwright and later a Factory Representative for Dresser-Rand in Houston, Texas. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Leslie (Becky) Spencer of Boyce, LA, four daughters, Rebecca L. Spencer of Lawton, Oklahoma, Bernadette K. Campbell of Haughton, LA, Barbara A. Curry and Jennifer S. Spencer both of Boyce, LA, six grandchildren, Samantha M. Henderson (Josh), Christopher D. Spencer, Shawn M. Campbell, Brittany M. Garneau, Hunter K. Spolarich and Rachael A. Curry, one great grandchild, Kaleigh M. Henderson , one brother, Eddie Spencer of Jefferson, TX and two sisters, Dottie G. Herring of Ball, LA, and Geneva R. Murphy of Dallas, TX, and a wonderful close family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.
