Oneal Netherland
Oneal Netherland, of Tulsa, 88, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was born August 17, 1922, in Crowville, Louisiana to Jake Netherland and Florence Anne Busby Netherland was one of twelve children. He graduated from Bish Mathis Institute of Business Administration in Monroe, Louisiana. His first job was with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Monroe. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he moved to Tulsa where he earned a BS in Business Administration and a Masters in Psychology from the University of Tulsa.
Oneal began a 31 year banking career at the First National Bank & Trust Company of Tulsa. He received a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking. Oneal took an early retirement as Senior Vice President and Director of Administrative Services so he could devote himself full time to enriching the quality of life for their son, Gary and other mentally handicapped persons at McCall's Chapel School in Ada, Oklahoma. There he served as Chairman and President. Oneal was very active in many civic, state, and national organizations to enrich the lives of others. He was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was an avid walker and enjoyed taking his granddaughters fishing.
He was married to Catherine Jackson for 62 years. They raised two children, Gary Oneal and Catherine Anne.
Oneal was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a son, Gary Oneal.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Tulsa, daughter Catherine Anne Goddard and her husband, Lindsey of Tulsa, grandchildren Michelle and Diana Goddard of Tulsa. Oneal is survived by one sister, Olline Killian, Crowville, Louisiana and numerous other family members.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home. Memorial service will be 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Memorial Baptist Church of Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Family Assistance Ministry at Memorial Baptist Church, Tulsa.
