Services are set for Opal Nelson

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. for Mrs. Opal Alton Miller Nelson, wife of Waldemar S. Nelson. She died Tuesday night after a long illness.

Services will be at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1101 S. Carrollton, with interment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Tharp-Sontheilner-Tharp, 4127 S. Claiborne Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nelson was born in Cargile [sic Carlisle], Ark. and attended Bolton High School in Alexandria, La., and the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. She was a past president of the USL Alumni Association and past president of the Louisiana Engineering Society. Mrs. Nelson was active in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, John J. Audubon School PTA, Friends of the Cabildo, and other civic organizations.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband, Waldemar S. Nelson, and five children, Mrs. J. J. Roniger Jr., Mrs. Murray B. Frost III, Charles W. Nelson, Mrs. Peter W. Dodge, Kenneth H. Nelson, and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Copper [sic Cooper] of Gonzales, La.
