ATLANTA, TX/SPRINGHILL, LA -- Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Hooter Jenkins, 76, of Atlanta, TX will be held Friday, August 8, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Bailey Mortuary Chapel in Springhill, LA with Bro. Gary McNatt and Bro. James Fore officiating. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery.
Mrs. Jenkins, a native of Summerville, LA and a former resident of Springhill, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 in Texarkana, TX after a short illness. She had made her home in Atlanta, TX since 1979 and was a member of the Tanglewood Missionary Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of International Paper Company with 43 years of service. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Wayne Jenkins on September 18, 1990 and her parents, L. L. and Sallie Hooter.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James M. ``Jimmy'' Jenkins of Atlanta, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Donna Jenkins, of Richardson, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Bill Basinger, of Trinity, TX; grandchildren, Steve Jenkins, of Baton Rouge, LA; Stacie Cagner and her husband, Tim, of Little Elm, TX; Terah Culp and her husband, Alex, of Wylie, TX; a great-grandson, Nicholas Culp.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Tanglewood Missionary Baptist Church.
