Opal Temple Boyett
Mrs. Opal Alice Temple Boyett, age 93 of Dodson, Louisiana, passed away, Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Specialty Hospital of Winnfield. Mrs. Boyett was the daughter of the late Jessie Temple and the late Willie Joe Burnum Temple.
A lifelong resident of Winn Parish, Mrs. Boyett was a long-time member of Antioch Bibleway Church of Goldonna, Louisiana. She, along with her late husband, established H. H. Boyett Grocery in Dodson in the late 1940s and operated it for almost 50 years. They also established and operated several other businesses in Winn and Jackson Parishes.
Mrs. Boyett was preceded in death by her husband, Herman H. Boyett and a daughter Lana Joan Boyett. Three brothers, Carl, Arnold, and Leonard Temple and a sister, Clarice Green, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her children: Don H. Boyett and wife Helen of Natchitoches; Mitzi Smith and husband Samuel of Dodson; Jill Boyett of Dodson; Kayla Nelson and husband Michael of Dodson; Fonda Chandler and husband Tommy of Dodson; R. Von Boyett and wife Kimberly of Dodson.
Eleven grandchildren survive Mrs. Boyett. They are K. Dion Boyett of Dodson, Koby D. Boyett of Pineville, Kara Smith Lolley of Bossier City, Cole Boyett Smith of Shreveport, Dr. West Charles Chandler of Marshal, Texas, Jess Logan Nelson of Dodson, Blake Mathew Boyett of Dodson, Cade Nathaniel Chandler of Baton Rouge, Samantha Faith Boyett of Dodson, Zackery H. Nelson of Natchitoches, and Bronwyn Daye Chandler of Dodson.
She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and three sisters: Oleen Shively of Dodson, Wilma Gates of Ruston, and Thera Lou Adams of Camden, Arkansas.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Boyett will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday at Gloryway Church with Reverends Ronnie Taylor, Richard Harmon, and Rayford Higgs officiating. Interment will follow in the Cypress Creek Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home Friday, June 1, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family at the church on Saturday, June 2nd from 1:00 p.m. until time of services.
Honoring her as pallbearers are her grandsons and great nephew, Kenny R. Higgs of Pickering.
