ORAL DEE OZMENT

Oral Dee Ozment, 80, retired deputy general counsel to the Civil Aeronautics Board, died of a heart attack Dec. 23 at Goodwin House West in Falls Church.

Mr. Ozment was born in Clinton, Ark., and graduated from Henderson State University in Arkansas. He taught in Arkansas public schools before moving to the Washington area and beginning his federal career as a clerk at the Department of Justice in 1938.

While working at the Justice Department, Mr. Ozment attended George Washington University law school. He joined the Civil Aeronautics Board upon his graduation in 1942, but then served three years in the Army Air Forces during World War II.

After the war, he returned to the Civil Aeronautics Board, where he retired as deputy general counsel in 1974.

On retirement, he had a private law practice, specializing in transportation matters until 1978.

He had received a Civil Aeronautics Board award for excellence and distinguished public service.

He was a member of United Methodist churches in Springfield and Fairlington.

His wife, Elizabeth Lee Ozment, died earlier this year. A son, Thomas Lee Ozment, died in 1961, and a daughter, Judith Ozment Carmine, died in 1988. Survivors include a brother, Elvis P. Ozment of Austin; and a grandson.
