Otis Rudolph (Jack) McCarty, 44, a Houston contractor, was shot to death as he talked to his wife on the telephone Sunday. His brother, Vernon McCarty, 37, an ex-convict, died several hours later of a bullet wound in his right temple. A ruling was pending in the double shooting.
