Military Honors Will Be Paid Soldier Who Lost Life On Firing Line In France
Funeral services for PCF Pat H. Freeman have been arranged for 3 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Montgomery Baptist church, about 6 miles North of Summit.
Burial will follow in the nearby church cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars, and members of The American Legion from Pike and Lincoln counties.
This young soldier lost his life while on the firing line in France September 6, 1944. He was a member of the Chemical Warfare Division of the U.S. Army, entering the military service October 8, 1942.
He was born April 11, 1919, and grew up in the Montgomery church community, attending school at Johnston Station. His comrades in arms say he was a good soldier.
The body will arrive in McComb from Memphis, Thursday morning, and be carried to the family home, Route 4, Summit, where it will lie in state until time for the funeral Friday.
He is survived by the following: Pink Freeman, Summit, father; Wren, Alcus, Julius and Hosea Freeman, brothers, all of Summit, Julie, Dixie Ethel and Ocie Freeman, all of Summit, and Mrs. Stella Wallace of Bude, sisters.
Final resting place of this young soldier will be near his mother who preceded him to the grave by several years.
Active pallbearers are former service men, John and Hilton May, Paul Roberts, Lonnie and Roy Adams and Virgil Moak.
The Rev. H. O. Worthy of Auburn will conduct the funeral services, assisted by the Rev. W. C. Roberts.
