Patti Willis Young
Patti Willis Young, age 83 of Boerne passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012. She was a lifelong lover of God as an Episcopalian, confirmed at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, San Antonio in 1940.
Patti loved to sing and was always in her church choir, most recently at St. Mark's. Though St Mark's was her first and last church, there were several in between, some of which she and her husband Bert helped establish in the Diocese of W TX.
She also attended St. Andrew's in Amarillo, and Christ Church Cathedral in Houston. She was constantly active in other ways in her church until her health slowed her down. She was a farmer, beloved math teacher, and later an accountant.
In the years after WWII, Patti was a code breaker for the Secret Service. She attended Our Lady of the Lake High School, and Trinity University, and continued through the years to meet regularly with dear friends from both schools.
Despite suffering many personal tragedies in her life (or perhaps because of them), Patti, through the Grace of God, knew how to live and how to love. She was passionate about life.
Patti loved traveling, sacred and classical music and opera, and she and Bert often combined the two, traveling to hear their favorite opera singer. She volunteered for several years at the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic and loved every minute of it.
Patti was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who adored her family, and was adored by them. She took special delight in her great grandchildren in the last few years of her life.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Waid Scott Willis and Ollie Coffee Willis Arnot; husband, Elbert Clifford ``Bert'' Young, Jr., and brother, Waid Scott Willis, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Molly Houck and husband, Louie; son, Paul Harvey Young and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Ben Houck and Lori, Beth Houck Hawkins and Aaron, Heather Ollie Young; and great-grandchildren, Katie, Charlie, Audie, Grey, Savannah and Tristan.
