Peggy R. Corley

Mrs. Peggy R. Corley, 73, of Lake Charles passed away, Monday, June 27, 2005 peacefully surrounded by her four children and husband, Dr. C. Richmond Corley, Jr., at the LSU Medical Center Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

She was born August 1, 1931, in Midland, TX, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Riley. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans, LA. After graduation she was awarded a music scholarship for piano to Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette), where she received a Bachelor of Music Education, graduating with honors in May of 1951. After graduation she accepted a position teaching elementary music in Bogalusa, LA and married C. Richmond Corley, Jr., August 8, 1953 in New Orleans. Further music education degrees include, Masters of Music Education, Masters Plus Thirty, Education Specialist in Music, and certification in Administration and Supervision. Mrs. Corley received numerous honors throughout her over thirty-three years as a music educator, including Vocal Music Teacher of the Year. She has also served as clinician and adjudicator for music workshops and festivals, President of the Vocal Music Teachers' Association, and served on the Board of Directors of the American Choral Foundation. She began teaching in Calcasieu Parish in 1966 and retired in June of 1992. Mrs. Corley served as Church Organist for Immaculate Conception Church and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church for forty years. She served as Coordinator of Music Ministry for the Rites of Christian Burial. Mrs. Corley received the St. Cecilia Music Minister Recognition Award.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. C. Richmond Corley, Jr. of Lake Charles; two sons, Dr. James R. Corley and wife, Ednadeen of Lafayette, LA, and Patrick R. Corley and wife, Michelle of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; two daughters, Phyllis C. Rodasti and husband, Ron of Sioux Falls, SD, and Suzi Corley, and life partner, Checky Okun, of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, and Elijah Rodasti, and Margaret and Benjamin Corley; one sister, Patsy Kamman of New Orleans, LA.
