Phil Edmond Duby

Phil Edmond Duby passed away in Brooks on February 12th, 1997 at the age of 95 years.

Born in Glasco, Kansas on December 15th 1901. Phil married Thelma Reese on February 12th, 1922 in Olympia, Washington. They came to Canada to farm in the Rainier District until retiring to Brooks in 1979. Phil was always very active in his community and had among many other things been a founding member of the Eastern Irrigation District, the Bow Slope Shipping Association, the Brooks Hospital Board, the UFA, the Rainier Community Club, the Prairie Pioneers and the Bow Slope Fire Association. Phil had served on the Bow Slope United Church Board for many years. He was instrumental in bringing power and telephone to the Rainier area. He enjoyed sports of every kind but especially football, baseball, wrestling and fishing.

He was predeceased by his wife Thelma on November 17th, 1993, son Arthur on May 6th, 1993, grandson Don in 1993, granddaughters Peggy and Patti in 1973 and a great-granddaughter in 1992.

Phil is survived by his sons Ron and his wife Peggy of Edmonton, Harold and his wife Laura of Salmon Arm, BC, Jim of Brooks and Forrest of Youngstown, Alberta; his daughter-in-law Audrey of Scandia; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-­grandchildren and 2 great-great­-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 18th, at 2:00 p.m. from Smith's Memorial Chapel. Rev. George Edmonds officiated.

Honorary pallbearers were Carl Anderson, Wilson Trotter, Tona Ohama, Merritt Murphy, Jim Graham, Wally Strawsell and John Ledene. Active pallbearers were Don Sandau, Eldon Sandau, Darrel McAulay, Shannon McAulay, Craig Duby and Randy Anderson.

Interment followed at Rainier Cemetery. If friends desire memorial tributes may be made to Rainier Cemetery Fund, c/o Box 1958, Brooks, Alberta T1 R 1 C7.
