Philip B. Garberg
Mr. Philip B. Garberg died on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Hancock Medical Center at the age of 88. He was a resident of Diamondhead for the past 19 years and a member of the Diamondhead Community Church.
Born on June 4, 1916 in Hettinger, North Dakota, Mr. Garberg received the degrees of B.S., M.S., LLB, and Jurist Doctorate. Phil married Geraldine ``Gerri'' Dark on September 14, 1946 and they were married for 58 years filled with wonderful memories.
Mr. Garberg's experiences entailed private law practice and also as an attorney for the Department of Defense, he was in the Army Air Corp from 1941-1945 serving in WWII and European Theater and North American Aviation, and he was also employed by the Army Department of Defense.
When asked about his worldly experiences, thoughts, creeds or guiding wisdom, Phil responded with the following: Wait for Gerri's tongue in cheek books-``Touring the United States via Beacons Van and Storage,'' ``Around the world with Philip in 52 Years,'' ``Win, Lose, or Draw'' and ``Tell it like it WUZ.'' He was very well known for his upbeat personality and sense of humor.
In his spare time Mr. Garberg was the chairman of 3 church building projects, president of 4 church councils, was on the District Council of Boy Scouts of Orange County, CA., Superintendent of Sunday Schools, North Dakota, President of PTA in Madison, Ill., past president of the Diamondhead Community Association, past president of ART.
Remaining consistent in his giving nature Mr. Garberg graciously donated his body for Anatomical studies.
Mr. Garberg was preceded in death by one sister Anna V. Hagen and one brother Rollo C. Garberg.
Survivors include his wife Geraldine ``Gerri'' Garberg of Diamondhead, MS, one son Roger Garberg and his wife Marion Sibley-Garberg of Gloster, Mass, one sister Mary Peinovich-Putzer and her husband Jack of Fargo, ND, and one Granddaughter Lucy Min Garberg of Gloster, Mass.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at Diamondhead Community Church with Rev. Charles Jones officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Children's Ministries of Diamondhead Community Church, 5301 Diamondhead Circle, Diamondhead, MS 39525.
Riemann Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis is in charge of arrangements.
