Philip B. Kempkes
Philip B. Kempkes, 85, of Petal, went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2013, at Wesley Medical Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Moore Funeral Chapel in Petal, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., with services immediately following. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Kempkes worked in the photography business for several years before selling Equitable Life Assurance for over 40 years. He received The Hall of Fame Medal for qualifying 10 times in The National Leaders Corps during his most distinguished career in the field of Life Underwriting. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, was a Charter member of the Biloxi/Edgewater Civitan Club (served as governor of the Ms Magnolia District 1976-1977), was a member of Carterville Baptist Church in Petal, and a former member and lifetime deacon of First Baptist Church of Biloxi. He was also an avid model train fan and enjoyed many train trips with his friends and family.
Mr. Kempkes was preceded in death by his parents, Tunis and Jeanette Kempkes and a sister, Mary Kempkes.
A loving husband and father devoted to his family, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne Kempkes of Petal; son and daughter-in-law, David and Angela Kempkes of Perth, Australia; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and John Martin of Petal; sister, Elisabeth Vanhorn of Salem, VA and Virginia (John) VerMeer of Pella IA; three grandchildren, J.P (Jennifer) Martin, Kevin Martin and Caleb Kempkes; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Martin.
