Phyllis Thomas Peters
(January 10, 1940 - February 12, 2013)

Phyllis (Rickard) Thomas Peters, 73, entered into rest on February 12, 2013 in Benton, AR.

Originally a native of Arkansas, Phyllis moved to Ringgold, LA after marrying Jerry G. Thomas, Sr. in 1961. Phyllis worked tirelessly both inside and outside of the home while her children were young. After her children became teenagers, Phyllis attained her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches. After her and Jerry's divorce, Phyllis achieved her Master's Degree from Centenary College, Shreveport and later attained her certification as a Reading Specialist. Phyllis taught in the Louisiana School System for more than 20 years at Ringgold Elementary in Ringgold, Arthur Circle Elementary, Judson Magnet, and North Highlands Elementary, all in Shreveport, and was currently tutoring children at the Boys and Girls Club in Benton, AR. She was formerly an active member of the Ringgold Women's Club, L.A.E., C.A.E., Phi Beta Phi, and the First United Methodist Church of Ringgold, LA.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Z.E. and Rosa Lee Rickard of Paron, AR and her second husband, Earl Peters of Plain Dealing, LA.

She was survived by her daughter, Stephanie Kidd and her husband David of Ringgold; son Jay Thomas and his wife LeAnne of Concordia, KS; three grandchildren, Andrea Childers and her husband Brock of Ringgold, Brent Burnham of Shreveport, and Nicholas Thomas of Concordia, KS; two great-granddaughters, Lainey and Faith Childers, both of Ringgold; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Ringgold. Officiating the services will be Rev. Ed Dilworth and Rev. Stephanie Kidd.

In lieu of flowers, gifts to the Methodist Children's Home in Ruston, LA will be greatly appreciated.
