PRESTON JEFFERSON TAUNTON

Preston Jefferson Taunton, 82, of Southport, Florida, died May 14, 2009 after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Bay County and his family attends First Assembly of God Church in Southport.

He was a sharpshooter and he served in the United States Army during World War II, serving during the Asian Theater and the European Theater.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Rea Taunton, brother, Jimmy Taunton, sister, Mamie Brock and brother-in-law, Woodrow Miller.

He is survived by a daughter, Patsy J. Odom, son, Billy Ray Taunton, four grandchildren, Sarea Odom, Jeff Taunton, Justin Taunton, Matthew Taunton, two brothers, Rex Taunton, Sim Taunton, two sisters, Reba Sapp and Juanita Dick.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Sapp and Rev. Joe Sellers officiating. Interment will follow in the Southport Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Taunton, Justin Taunton, Jeff Taunton, Blaine Taunton, Woody Wood and Bill Bedee.
