Quincy D. Prestridge Jr.

Quincy D. Prestridge Jr., 77, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Harbor House Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. He was born in Montgomery, Ala., on March 11, 1932.

He was preceded in death by his father, Quincy D. Prestridge Sr.; and mother, Lennie B. Prestridge.

He moved to Baton Rouge in 1936 and graduated from Istrouma High School in 1951. He then joined the Navy, serving two years in San Diego and two years in Hawaii before returning to Baton Rouge and attending LSU for several years. Quincy was a partner in RS&S Sports Cars until 1982, at which time he moved to Beaumont to manage Insurance Storage Pool. He retired in 1995.

He loved racing cars and was a 50-year member of the Sports Car Club of America. He was also a true NASCAR fan. He became a member of the Port Arthur Yacht Club after moving to Beaumont as sailing was his passion. He was a great sailor and he loved the water, whether it was Lake Sabine, the Intracoastal Waterway, the Gulf of Mexico or just sitting dockside with friends. He was also a longtime member of the U.S. Power Squadron.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janis Prestridge; his brother and best friend, Richard Prestridge and his wife, Karen; daughters, Dr. Cathie Phillippi and her husband, Dr. Mark Phillippi, and Victoria Terry and her husband, Scott; stepson, Brent Williams and his wife, Debra; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his family, he had one other great love, his sailboat, Passages. The wind is in your sails now, Quincy. Geaux Tiger!

A memorial service will be held in Baton Rouge at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.
