Rachel Nance Freeman
(April 26, 1926 - May 14, 2006)

Rachel Nance Freeman, 80, of Turner Road, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Britthaven of Thomasville after being in declining health for three months.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Frankie Matthews. Burial will be in Silver Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Freeman was born in Davidson County on April 26, 1926, to Grover Cleveland Nance and Kate Gobble Nance. She was a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Stephen Freeman Sr., who died Nov. 10, 1996, and a son, David Freeman, who died Sept. 2, 1996. Mrs. Freeman loved to keep children, and they will all miss her very much.

Surviving are her three sons, Steve Freeman Jr. and his wife, Shelby, Tom Freeman and his wife, Jane, and Dwight Freeman and his wife, Jan, all of Lexington; two daughters, Sandra Johnson and her husband, Richard, of Monroe and Gwendy Hays and her husband, Bryan, of Duncanville, Texas; eight grandchildren, Rick Johnson, Beth Swicegood, Thomas Freeman, Whitney Hays, Micah Hays, Joshua Hays, Taylor Freeman and Grayson Freeman; three great-grandchildren, Melia and Trevor Swicegood and Clay Johnson; one brother, Samuel Nance and his wife, Ava, of Rockingham; and two sisters, Ruth Everhart and her husband, Joe, and Becki Moore, all of Lillington.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the residence.
