Ralph Barron Hymes
“The Oracle of Texas”
Ralph Barron Hymes passed away suddenly on June 19 of natural causes at the age of 78. He added an element of spice to our lives that is irreplaceable, and he will be sorely missed.
Friends and family will remember his intelligence and wit, both of which he utilized in abundance in his social interactions. He was a committed punster and loved to make loved ones laugh with unexpected gifts: a Christmas ham, matching Irish wool sweaters, a 3-foot tall ceramic chicken sent via U.S. mail.
He loved his dogs, the New York Giants, Calvin and Hobbes, quantum mechanics, spending time with friends, and the New York Times crossword puzzle. He was justifiably proud of his service in the U.S. Navy (Seal, Naval Intelligence, Master Chief Petty Officer), his work with the U.S. Census, his volunteer work at the hospital, and his regular donations to the Scott and White Blood Center.
He is survived by faithful companions J.J., Maggie, and Rambo, stepdaughters and sons-in-law Dave and Stacey Rosener and Ron and Jill White, granddaughters Tiffany, Jenna, and Grace, and a number of very good friends and wonderful neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.
Services will be at a later date. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you take a friend out for a beer in his honor.
