Ray M. McCarty

Ray M. McCarty, 77, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2010 at his residence in Laurel.Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at Union Line Cemetery in Jones County. Rev. Glen McElhenney will officiate.

He was born March 7, 1932 in Stringer. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was ordained a minister in 1960, and worked as a barber for 54 years. He worked in Laurel, Mobile, Ala., Bay Springs, Newton and Lawrence. He retired in 2004.

He was a man of humble faith and deep religious convictions. Anyone who knew him would learn much from him. He will be missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmond and Eloise McCarty; and three brothers, Junior, Lee and Billy Joe McCarty.

He is survived by one son, Bobby (Debbie) McCarty; and two daughters, Cindy (Wayne) Waldrep, and Brenda (C. J.) Jones, all of Soso; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Scott) Reeves, Kimberly Lent, Amy Hinton, Chad Jones, Justin McCarty, Evan (Amanda) McCarty, Scott Jones, and Jonathan McCarty; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Armstrong, Preston Deese, Jack Reeves, and Kayne McCarty; one brother, Dale McCarty of Ocean Springs; five sisters, Nell Spivey of Mobile, Ala., Lola Estelle of Southaven, Gay Coley, Baltimore, Maryland, Delores Aldridge of Mobile, Ala., and Bobbie Jean Payne of Mobile, Ala. and a special friend, Willie V. Morgan.

Pallbearers will be Chad Jones, Scott Jones, Justin McCarty, Jonathan McCarty, Scott Reeves and Carthell Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Waldrep, Hunter Armstrong, Preston Deese, Jack Reeves and Kayne McCarty.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at Memory Chapel of Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.
