Rayburn L. Walley

Battle Creek - Rayburn L. Walley, 80, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at home.

He was born November 28, 1923, in Petal, Missouri [sic Mississippi], the son of Melton and Verda (Pugh) Walley.

Mr. Walley was employed by Eaton manufacturing for 32 years retiring in 1980. He also served on the Eaton fire brigade.

He was a dance instructor who loved the outdoors, sports and tinkering.

Mr. Walley was a United States Navy Veteran and served on the shore patrol.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Michael Ray (Lisa) Lemons, Tamara (Tim) Cornwell, and Rebekah (Sikaoma) Leakehe all of Battle Creek. He also leaves his six great-grandchildren, his sister, Juanita (Loren) McKimmey of Portland, Oregon, half-brothers, Joe Walley of Laurel, Mississippi, and John Walley of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, his longtime companion, Irmgard Griffiths of Augusta, several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Walley was preceded in death by his daughter, Dolores Lemons in 1998, his grandson, Aaron J. Lemons in 1993, half-sisters, Selma Powell, Irma McLain, J. D. Hale, Mary Katherine Walley and half-brothers, Carl and Bernie Walley.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Royal Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.
