Services Set For Victim Of Water Mishap
NEWELLTON (Special) -- Services have been scheduled for Raymond Killian, 47, of Crowville, who drowned early Friday night in the Tensas river, about 12 miles southwest of here.
Killian and a companion, Landis Magee of Winnsboro, were ferrying a pick-up truck across the river on a pontoon at Westwood landing. Magee got out of the truck while Killian remained inside.
Suddenly the truck began to move, upsetting the balance of the pontoon. As the barge tipped, the truck rolled off into about 14 feet of water.
Tensas and Franklin parish sheriffs' departments, along with state police and game agents, winched the truck out shortly after 11 p.m. Friday. Killian's body was still in the truck.
Final rites will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from First National Funeral Chapel in Winnsboro conducted by the Revs. C. S. Wroten and Tom Ratcliff. Burial will be in the Myrtle Memorial Cemetery.
The Crowville farmer and World War II veteran is survived by a daughter, Miss Nettie Jan Killian, Winnsboro; a sister, Mrs. O. M. Caldwell, Crowville; three brothers, J. R. Runge, Tex., S. B. Martland, Mo., and J. D. Crowville, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Berry Gardner, Henry Williams, B. A. Byargeon, Landis Magee, Barney Henderson, Willie D. Lofton, K. C. Lofton and Bloyce Lofton.
