R. E. (Dick) Kirksey, Ex-Deputy Sheriff Dies; Funeral Today

Raymond E. (Dick) Kirksey, 60, who lived in the Early community on Route 4, died in a local hospital at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. He had been in failing health in recent years and was admitted to the hospital the past week.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. today at the Jenkins Springs Church, with burial in the Jenkins Springs Cemetery. Rev. Harry Hames of Lipan and Rev. W. M. Bowden will officiate.

Mr. Kirksey, a lifetime resident of Brown County, was born Nov. 15, 1895.

He served with the U. S. Army in combat service in France, during World War I.

Some 10 years ago he was a member of the Brownwood Fire Department and in 1949-50 was deputy sheriff and jailer here. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pearl Kirksey; two sons, Lloyd D. Kirksey of Pasadena, Texas, and George G. Kirksey of Long Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. C. M. Tate of Pasadena, Texas; five brothers, J. W. and J. V. of Brownwood, L. A. of Grosvenor, L. E. of Fresno, Calif., and G. E. Kirksey of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Betty Curry, Mrs. Virginia Taylor, Mrs. C. G. Collie and Mrs. M. J. Flowers, all of Brownwood, and 10 grandchildren.
