HAWTHORNE, RAYMOND ROY

Services for Raymond Roy Hawthorne, 82, of Hideaway are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, November 20th, Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas, with Dr. Darryle Dunks and Don Barron officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 PM, November 20th at Roselawn Cemetery in Seagoville, Texas. Mr. Hawthorne died November 16th, 2006 in Tyler, Texas. He was born July 1, 1924 in Cooper, Texas to Raymond and Lorena Ledbetter Hawthorne. He was a member of the class of 1944 at Texas A&M and graduated shortly after WWII, with a degree in chemical engineering. During WWII he was an officer in the Pacific, leading troops and serving as a Forward Artillery Observer on Angaur, Peleliu, Saipan, and Okinawa. During those campaigns he was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He married Cozette Morris on May 15, 1948, and had two children, James Raymond Hawthorne and Dr. Robert Penn Hawthorne, DVM. He was an employee of Atlantic Richfield for 39 years. He was an active member of the Baptist church and served as a deacon at Willow Meadows Baptist Church (Houston) and First Baptist of Dallas. In his walk with the Lord, he served as a Junior High Sunday School Superintendent, taught a Junior High and a Men's Sunday School Class, was a youth choir sponsor, and worked with Texas Baptist Men. After retiring and moving to Hideaway, he was a member of Greenacres Baptist Church in Tyler where he was active in Senior Adult ministries. While living in Houston, he also served with distinction as a Scoutmaster.

Survivors include his wife, Cozette, his son James and his wife Susan, his son Robert and his wife Charlotte; grandchildren, Sara, Will, Ben, and Lucas; Kathlyn, Trapp, and Leah. Honorary Pallbearers will be Homer Thornton, Richard Roe, Tom Liles, Danny Echols, H.G. White, Will Hawthorne, Ben Hawthorne, and Lucas Hawthorne.
