Richard, also known as Dick or R.E., was a veteran of WWII, serving in the army in the Philippines and Japan. On his release he returned home and found that his brother Edward “Chub”, also a veteran, had enrolled them both in college at Texas A&M. He had just 2 weeks at home then left for school. Sadly, Chub passed away during college of Hodgkin's Disease. Richard graduated from Texas A&M in 1950 with a degree in Industrial Education and soon had a job with Phillips Petroleum as a Safety Inspector. He worked for many years at Phillips and then worked as a rancher with his father and brother James. He was responsible for maintaining the tractors and other equipment needed and had many people bringing him odd jobs that he enjoyed doing in his machine shop. His youngest brother, James, also graduated from Texas A&M as well as his daughter, Nelda, and granddaughters Amy & Dawn who enjoy saying they are third generation Aggies.
