Richard Warren Peppe Sr.
Housing Programs Counselor
Richard Warren Peppe Sr., 71, who retired from the Department of Housing and Urban Development in 1974 as a counselor for low-income housing programs, died of cancer July 15 at the Hospice of Northern Virginia. He lived in Springfield.
Mr. Peppe, a resident of the Washington area for 38 years, was a native of New York and a graduate of the State University of New York at Farmingdale.
He served in the Navy at the end of World War II and in the Army during the Korean War, when he was posted to Paris.
Mr. Peppe began his career as a loan officer with Chase Manhattan Bank. He later worked for American Security and Trust and the Federal Housing Administration. He also worked at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in the mid-1960s as a student loan officer.
Mr. Peppe was a Shriner, a Moose and an Elk. He was a member of the American Legion, Sojourners, Knights Templar, Knights of Columbus and St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Springfield. He was a commissioner for the Boy Scouts in the Franconia area.
His marriage to Josephine Byrd ended in divorce.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marie Elizabeth Peppe of Springfield; a son from his first marriage, Warren Roberson of Arkansas; two sons from his second marriage, Richard Warren Peppe Jr. of Vienna and Stephen Anthony Peppe of Fairfax; a stepson, Paul Roman Lazarr of Arlington; a brother, Ronald Wayne Peppe of Frederick; and a grandson.
