*The 1900 census indicates that Richmond and Elizabeth had been married for 32 years, which implies a marriage date of about 1868. Their 1870 household included three children: Ellis (b. about 1862), Mary (b. about 1864), and Annie (b. about 1866). Ellis and Mary were presumably children from a prior marriage of Elizabeth. From their ages, they are unlikely to have been fathered by Richmond. The 1900 census indicated that Elizabeth had given birth to seven children, with six still living.
