SATTERFIELD, ROBERT ATWOOD

Born June 27, 1929 he passed away May 20, 2011.

Bob was a native of Birmingham, born in Virginia Mines. He grew up in West End where he attended Elyton Grammar School and then West End High School. He served in the United States Armed Forces for 4 years, two of which were in Japan. He later became a graduate of Birmingham Southern Collage where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Bob met Mary Jo Sawyers in high school and they were married in March of 1954. Bob went to work for IBM at Serve Bureau Corporation, and stayed with that business group for 36 years through two acquisitions. He and Jo were members of Chapel in The Pines Presbyterian Church for 48 years where he served as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School teacher. Bob was also known as Coach Satterfield where he served the Shades Mountain Community as both a football and baseball coach.

He is preceded in death by parents Robert A. and Maude Satterfield.

He is survived by wife of 57 years Mary Jo, brother John Harris Satterfield (Gail), sons Thomas A. Satterfield and Patrick J. Satterfield (Susan), grandchildren Elizabeth Sawyer Satterfield and Lindley Brooke Satterfield, niece Pamela Gail Satterfield and nephew John Craig Satterfield.

Bob was a loving husband, great father, and friend to so many. He will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 23rd at 3pm at Elmwood Chapel with visitation from 2-3pm. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
