MR. ROBERT A. FOSTER, JR.
Mr. Robert Allen Foster, Jr., 85, resident of Clifton Drive, died Friday, May 2, 2003 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Brother Wayne Hardison and Brother Mike Greene officiating. Burial will be in the Haynes Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Robert Allen Foster, Sr. and Mary Lillian West Foster.
During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army for five years. Attaining the rank of Master Sergeant and a sharp shooter designation, he was stationed in Mississippi at Camp Shelby and at bases in Yuma, Arizona and Fenner, California. He served a two year tour of duty in New Guinea where he was head of the motor vehicle pool. Upon his return home, he had a twenty-month old daughter he had not seen.
Mr. Foster operated his own appliance business for several years and retired from Sears with thirty years service. He was a charter member of the Columbia Civitan Club, participated in club activities for over twenty-five years and was a member of the Northview Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Katie Sue Pinkston Foster, whom he married November 19, 1941; three daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Dr. Wayne Tipps of Lookout Mountain, Nancy and Michael Hunter of Columbia, Kay and Wallace Kirk Tillman of Culleoka; a step-sister, Beatrice Grimes Boshears of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Emily (Clint) Montgomery of Columbia; Kimberly Tillman of Flower Mound, Texas, Patrick (Shannon) Hunter of Damariscotta, Maine, Bill Hunter of Columbia, Allen Carter of Athens; two great-grandchildren, Leah Montgomery of Columbia; Samuel Hunter of Damariscotta, Maine. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ulna Foster in 2001.
