HAUGHTON, LA. - Services for Mr. Robert E. Johnson, 69, of Haughton, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday March 11 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel. The Rev. Doug Cain, pastor of Lakeshore United Methodist Church, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Charles Roper, pastor of Love Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnson, a resident of Haughton since 1974, died Wednesday March 9, 1988, at Highland Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Bessemer, Ala. Mr. Johnson was retired from the military, after 23 years of service, and was a member of the Retired Officers Association. Prior to moving to Haughton, Mr. Johnson lived in Satellite Beach, Fla., where he worked from 1962 until his disability retirement in 1974, with NASA at Kennedy Space Center and where he received many commendations and awards during the early space years of NASA. From 1938 to 1958, Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army and retired in Jackson, Miss. earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a 32nd degree Mason, affiliated with the Wahabi Shrine Temple in Jackson, Miss., a member of the Lions Club, Love Chapel United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men's Club.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue Elliott Johnson of Haughton; three daughters, Beth and her husband, Tom Prest, of Haughton, Sandy and her husband, Michael Shockley, of Camp LeJeune, N.C., Bobbie and her husband, C. Mack Boykin, of Haughton; two sisters, Margaret Lavine of Hayward, Calif. and Billie Jungkeit of Redding, Calif.; one brother, W.W. Johnson of Placerville, Calif.; five grandchildren, Shannon Prest, Rob Simack, JoAnna Shockley, Sarah-Lyn Prest and Kasey Shockley; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jim Scott, Ed Darnell, Al Hickerson, Lyle Kruise, Buddy Waggoner, Bob Monzingo.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Love Chapel building fund.
