Prominent Area Leader Dies; Funeral Tuesday

EPPS -- Robert Guthrie Jarrell, prominent Epps businessman and civic leader, died late Sunday in the St. Francis Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 72.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Kidder-Cox Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Jarrell, a resident of Epps for 39 years, was a pharmacist and founder and member of the board of directors of the West Carroll National Bank in Oak Grove. He had served on the board since the bank's founding in 1947

He was the father of Dr. Robert G. Jarrell of Monroe.

A native of Columbia, he was a graduate of Tulane University. Earlier this year he received 50-year certificates from Tulane School of Pharmacy and from the Louisiana State Pharmaceutical Association.

He was a member of the Epps United Methodist Church, Pioneer Masonic Lodge No. 340, F & AM, Oak Grove Chapter No. 90, Royal Arch Masons, 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was also a member of the Louisiana State Pharmaceutical Association.

Mr. Jarrell is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lucille Lipp Jarrell of Epps; his son in Monroe; a brother, Dr. M. F. Jarrell of Alexandria; and a nephew, Dr. M. L. Jarrell, also of Alexandria.
