TRANSYLVANIA, May 16 (Special) -- Robert J. McCarty, 62, of Transylvania, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday in a Monroe hospital following an illness of several months.
McCarty was a native of Mississippi; he moved at an early age to West Carroll parish, and for the last 17 years he has resided in East Carroll parish.
Funeral services, tentatively planned, will be held on Thursday at the Transylvania Baptist church, with interment following in the Forest Cemetery. Arrangements will be under the direction of Gay Funeral Home of Lake Providence.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Winnie Dukes McCarty, of Transylvania; two daughters, Mrs. Clar Belle Gardner, and Mrs. Ozell McCarty Walker, both of Transylvania; four sons, Rudolph (Jack) McCarty, of Baton Rouge, Vernon McCarty, of DeMoines [sic Des Moines], Iowa, Freeman McCarty, of Houston, Tex., and Hulon (Buster) McCarty, of Transylvania; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Butler, of Raleigh, Miss., Mrs. May Vidler, of Berkley, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren.
