Robert Lee `Bob' Byrd
Robert Lee ``Bob'' Byrd, 89, of Petal, died June 12, 2002, at Hattiesburg Convalescent Center.
Services were 10 a.m. Saturday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg. The Rev. L. H. McCollough and the Rev. Jerry Doggett officiated. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Petal.
Mr. Byrd was born Jan. 13, 1913, in Waynesboro. He was the son of the late Riley E. Byrd and the late Nancy Rainwater Byrd.
He was retired owner of Two Acre Truck Stop and Cafe in Petal, and a former resident and businessman of Crosby. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Forrest County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Dawson Byrd of Petal; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Virginia Byrd of Savannah, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and T.P. Easterling III of Petal; one brother, Ulmer Byrd of Petal; five sisters, Louise Albritton of the Dixie community, Mable Crane of Houston,Texas, Patsy Haydel of Crystal Springs, Peggy Snow of Vicksburg and Denell Jones of Laurel; nine grandchildren, Robert Lee Byrd and Justin Byrd, both of Knoxville, Tenn., Lisa B. Murphy of Savannah, Tina B. Zavatchen of Nashville, Tenn., JoAnn B. Campbell of Fort Worth, Texas, Kristie E. Holland of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Kelly, Casey and Kerri Easterling, all of Hattiesburg; 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.
