Robert Enoch

Robert William Enoch, Sr., passed away on the 21st of May, 2014, in Houston at the age of 94. He was born on the 24th of September, 1919, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of Lawrence William and Nettie Estella Enoch.

After graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1936, Bob moved with his family to Baytown, where his father worked as a machinist with Standard Oil. Bob attended Lee Junior College, receiving his certificate in Mechanical Engineering in 1940. He also met his wife, Glynworth Dunn Enoch, at Lee College. They were married on the 2nd of August, 1940, at 1st Baptist Church in Goose Creek. Bob was working at the Humble plant at the start of World War II. He volunteered for the Army in 1942, and graduated from the US Army Air Force Technical School at Yale University in 1944. He served as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in March 1946. He was very proud of his service to his country and often spoke of his days in the Army Air Corps.

After the war, Bob and Glyn returned to Houston, where he enrolled in the first class of the University of Houston Pharmacy program. He received his BS in Biology in 1949 and his BS in Pharmacy in 1950.

He then embarked on a long career as a Pharmacist, working for Mizell Pharmacy and Jones Apothecary through the 1950's, buying his own drugstore, Fannin Pharmacy (“Across from the Courthouse”) in 1960. He sold the business in 1971, continuing as a manager for Medic Pharmacy until 1981. He never really retired from the field - he worked as a consultant Pharmacist in the Texas Drug Vendor program for the next 11 years, and then did talks on drug problems for seniors for the AARP.

Bob was very active in his church, serving as a deacon at Westbury Baptist Church and also as an Adult Sunday School teacher for over 25 years, carefully preparing his lessons each week from his own small library of Bible reference books.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Knight Templar, a member of Bellaire Masonic Lodge #1336. He was a member of Rho Chi (honorary Pharmacy scholarship society), past President of the Harris County Pharmaceutical Society, and past President of the Marilyn Estates Civic Club.

Bob is survived by Glyn, his loving wife of 73 years; his sister Rose Cravey and husband Seaborn, his son Glenn Enoch and wife Tricia Dignam, son James Enoch and wife Sandy, his beloved grandson Dylan Enoch, his niece Sandra Wallace and husband Kent, his niece Susan Cunningham and husband David, his nephew Mike Enoch and wife Susan, his niece Janet Enoch Nolen and six grandnieces and -nephews.
