Roberta Duke Gregory
Services for Roberta “Dolly” Duke Gregory, 88, of Columbia were 10 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2004 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Bruce McGee and Rev. Julius Russell officiating. Interment followed in the Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson.
Mrs. Gregory was born in Caldwell Parish on June 25, 1915 to the union of Tilden and Lena Lively Duke and died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia.
She was a retired schoolteacher in the Caldwell Parish School System for 35 years. She was a graduate of LA Tech University. She was a founding member of the Columbia Heights Baptist Church, the Senior Adult Choir and The Top of the Hill Club. She served on the Columbia Heights Water District Board From 1988 until 2001. She was a former board member of Citizens Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Tillman E. Gregory, her sister: Avis Duke, her brothers: Carl Duke and Curtis Duke and her step-grandson: Rick Brown.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Janis and Richard Brown; her grandchildren: Greg Lewellyan and his wife: DeLaine, Jennifer L. Frazier and her husband: Bob, and Colin Lewellyan and his wife Melanie all of Columbia and Jeffery Charles Brown of Baton Rouge; her great-grandchildren: Madeline and Maggie Frazier and Harrison and Haleigh Lewellyan of Columbia, her sister: Nyease Duke Horn of Tyler, TX and numerous neices and nephews.
Mrs. Gregory loved her family, her church and her flowers. She believed that nothing was out of reach if you were not afraid of hard work. She and her husband saw to it that the lives of their daughter and their grandchildren would be easier than theirs had been by providing them all with college educations.
Pallbearers were Gene Dupree, Don Davis, Waymon Calhoun, Binus Duke, Steve May, Judge Ronald Lewellyan, Carl Calhoun and Eugene Dunn.
Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Duke, Homer Meredith, Wilbur Duke, Sam Duke, Leonard Gregroy, Ralph Bird, Don Gregory, Bob Gregory and Bubba Calhoun.
