Roma “Nana” Eichelberger

Roma Hernandez Elichelberger, 87, of Denham Springs passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2015. She was a native of Baton Rouge, where she was born in 1927 to Lena and Clarence Hernandez. She was a very loving mother and Nana. She was an avid homemaker and loved to bake. Beginning a few months before Christmas, you could always walk into her home and smell her famous homemade Christmas cookies. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her plants.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn and husband Jerry, and Kathryn Steele; one son, Gary Emmons; one brother, Lyndon Hernandez; six grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ray Eichelberger; parents; one son, Spencer “Jackie” Emmons; two sisters, Joyce Nicolle and Ginger McAndrew; and two brothers, Ted L. Hernandez and Clarence Hernandez, Jr.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph's Hospice for all the help they have given over the past few years. They would also like to thank Brandi, Jackie, Alice, Joy, Susie and Kimberly for the loving care they provided to “Miss Roma”. There is a special place in Heaven for them. Also, to our cousin, Lisa Hernandez, who took care of her every day and showed such love and tenderness. Finally a special thanks to Naomie, her first weekend caregiver, who was still continually checking on her.

The family will receive friends at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 2:00pm at the Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
