Ronald Dean Champ
August 24, 1934 - September 22, 2012

Ronald D. Champ was laid to rest on Monday September 24 in a graveside service at Rocky Creek Cemetery with Richard Hetzel officiating.

Born in Amarillo on August 24, 1934, Ron spent many of his growing up years living throughout the western United States and South America. His father owned and operated an oil drilling company that did business in a number of locations. As a young man, he moved to California where he joined the Naval Reserve, serving in the Shore Patrol and participating in the Navy boxing program. As a result of an accident, he returned to Amarillo for rehab during which time he began to learn music and took up drums. During this time, he worked at various jobs including on a railroad survey crew and as a TV camera man, while enrolling in West Texas State-Canyon to begin academic work. By the late 50's, Ron relocated to Austin where he began to play music professionally and enrolled as a student at the University of Texas at Austin, eventually earning a Masters of Arts degree in Psychology. Work with MH-MR eventually brought him to Brownwood in 1972 where he continued to work as a psychologist until his retirement.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Champ and his mother Vera Slaton C[h]amp as well as his half sister, Helen.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Judith Kirksey Champ as well as many loving and long time friends.
