Rosa D. Whittington
Rosa D. Whittington, 94, of Summit, died Aug. 27, 2007, at her residence.
Visitation is 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb until services there at 11 a.m. Dr. David Millican and the Rev. Anthony Yarborough will officiate. Burial will be in Whittington Cemetery in Amite County.
Mrs. Whittington was born Aug. 31, 1912, in the Johnston Station community to Thomas Martin Dickerson and Mary Beavers Dickerson.
She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Whittington was a switchboard operator for Southern Bell and was a homemaker. Her family said she was a devoted Christian and a loving, caring wife, mother and friend. She put her Lord, family and friends above her personal needs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Homer, Stanley, Robert Edward, Monroe and Paul ``Pete'' Dickerson; four sisters, Mary and Omie Dickerson, Dona Moak and Betty May; four brothers-in-law, Robert Scoggins, Ernest ``Buck'' Moak, Stanley May and A.V. Rosson; and two sisters-in-law, Pearl McCormick and Myrtle Kyzar Dickerson.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Alvie R. Whittington of Summit; a son, Danny Whittington of Summit; a sister, Velma Dickerson Rosson of Baton Rouge; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Scoggins Dickerson of Summit and Viola Gatlin Case of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Keith Souther, Greg Souther, Jeremy Souther, John Rosson, Gene Morgan and Allan Whittington.
