ROSAMOND JOHNSON

Rosamond Johnson, 86, of Brooks-Howell Home, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1994.

A native of Reynolds, Ga., she was the daughter of Robert Carroll and Edna Laura Saunders Johnson. At age 3, she moved with her parents to Columbus, Ga., where she graduated from high school and after a two year post-graduate course taught kindergarten in Columbus schools. In 1931, she moved to San Antonio, Texas and taught Kindergarten at Wesley Community House for two years. After two years, at Sue Bennett College and two years at Scarritt College, she was consecrated a deaconess on March 14, 1937. In 1937, she was appointed to Wesley Community House, Atlanta, Ga., as a kindergarten teacher and young children's leader. She became director in 1950, serving in this capacity for 12 years. Other training includes an M.A. in Child Development from the University of Michigan, master of Social works from the University of Tennessee School of Social Work. Other appointments were to the Bethlehem Center, Spartanburg, S.C., and the Open Dooor Community House, Columbus, Ga. She retired in 1973, entering Brooks-Howell Home in 1984. She was a member of Oakley United Methodist Church.

Survivors include nephews, Joe D. and John W. Johnson of Columbus, Ga.; sister-in-law, Virginia M. Johnson of Columbus, Ga.

Services were Tuesday at East Highland United Methodist Church, Columbus, Ga. Burial was in Park Hill Cemetery.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brooks-Howell Chapel with the Rev. James R. Calloway officiating.
