FORMER OLLA BANKER DIED IN ACCIDENT

A former chairman of the board of The Olla State Bank (now Jonesville Bank and Trust Company) in Olla, died Sunday afternoon, January 6, 1991, in a one-car accident on U.S. Highway 84 just east of Winnfield. State Police said Roscoe P. Steen, 74 of Kelly died after he lost control of his car and hit a ditch embankment about 12:10 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Police said there is a chance that Steen suffered a heart attack, resulting in the accident. An autopsy was performed to determine the cause of death.

Steen owned and operated Steen's Grocery, located on U.S. 165 between Olla and Grayson,. He was a veteran of World War II, a Mason and member of the American Legion. He was a retired rural mail carrier and served for many years on the board of directors of The Olla State Bank and served as it's chairman for a period of time.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, in the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home in Columbia with the Rev. Minns Robertson and Dr. William Causey officiating. Burial will follow at the Good Home Cemetery of Kelly under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Whittington Steen of Kelly. Pallbearers will be Charlie Jones, Ray Carroll, Bob Pardue, Edge Richardson, Mickey Skinner, Billy Ray Whitehead and Cary Lee Stott.
