Memorial serives are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg for Rowena Willis McCarty, 78, of Hattiesburg, who died Jan. 17, 1994, of cancer at her residence.
The Rev. John Dudley will officiate. Interment of ashes will be in Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. McCarty, a native of Monroe County, was a 1938 graduate of State Teachers College (University of Southern Mississippi) and a former public schoolteacher at Beaumont High School. She had resided in Forrest County for 57 years.
She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the 20th Star Chapter, Daughters of American Revolution and the Alpha Sigma Chapter, Tri Sigma Sorority. She was also a member of the Hattiesburg Garden Club, the Entre Nous Club, the South Mississippi Genealogy Society, the Audubon Society, the Hattiesburg Area Historical Association, the Friends of the Library, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Travel Club of Hattiesburg and a life member of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi.
Mrs. McCarty was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Stewart and John Plummer Willis; and her husband, Manuel L. McCarty.
Survivors include her son, Michael L. McCarty of Raymond; two daughters, Marilyn Dillistone of Hattiesburg and Muriel Palazzo of Gulfport; one brother, James Plummer Willis of DeSoto; two sisters, Sallye Willis Trussell of Hattiesburg and Lynn Willis Chapman of Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or to any other desired charity.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg is in charge of arrangements.
