Roy Haynes Powers Jr.
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great grandfather, brother and friend, Roy Haynes Powers, Jr. of Sweeny, Texas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home.
He was born July 9, 1928 in Laurel, Mississippi to Roy Haynes Powers, Sr and Glinda Louise (Welch) Powers. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church Old Ocean; retired from Phillips 66 refinery as a maintenance supervisor after 33 years of dedicated service. He was in scouting as a youth and continued with scouting through the years. He was an avid reader of western novels especially Louis L'Amour and enjoyed playing guitar. He was also owner of Morrow's Nut House in the Brazos Mall. He as one time served as president of the Phillips 66 Lake and Gun Club.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Sweeny with Pastors John Price and Alan Gentiles officiating. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Doug, Chris, and Jesse McClure, George and Lance Layne, Seth and Aaron Digiovanni and Rob Woodard. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Ellis, P.T. Brunner, Thomas Edling, Gary Coker, Gene Kittenger, Gene Mach, Joe Lingo, Tubby Meador, Wayne Crosson, Glen Fails, Buddy Bailey, Kelly Borders, Melvin Bernhausen, Dwayne Stewart, Sonny Payne, Mark Drake, Johnny Lewis, Robert Benefield, Sonny Benefield, Ken McConnell, Steve Pourteau and Charles Richards.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pauline Edling Powers of Sweeny; daughters, Debbie Davis and husband, Mike; Terry Powers; Joy Woodard and husband, Robby; and Colleen Powers; grandchildren, Doug McClure and wife, Candy; Chris McClure and wife, Diane; Jesse McClure and wife, Jamie, Matt Davis and wife, Sharron, Barbara Sparks and husband, Billy, David Davis and wife, Beth; and Daniel Davis and wife, Joy, George Layne and wife, Blythe, Lance Layne, Seth Digiovanni and Aaron Digiovanni and Brittany; Lauren Koether and husband, Stephen ; Rob Woodard and wife, Lauren; also 21 great-grandchildren; Taylor, Trayle and Trinity McClure, Christopher Roy McClure, Jr., Sydney, Quinn, and Logan Denise McClure; Mason, Cecily and Elissa Davis, Ben and Abigail Sparks, Maddie, Reid, Annelise, Simon, and Vivian Davis, Hayden and Holden Layne and Tatum Digiovanni and Joyanne Koether; and 2 great-great-grandchildren on the way, with brothers, Air Force Retired Colonel, William Rhodes Powers and wife, Ann; and Robert Powers and wife, Joan; along with numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Glinda Louise [sic Glinda Earline] Powers Richards and son, William Robert (Billy Bob) Powers.
