Services in the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park; aged 83, of Alexandria died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in her residence; officer of Rapides Bank, retiring with 30 years of service; member of the Association of Bank Women, American Business Women's Club, a charter member of Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, Matinee Music Club, past president of the Quota Club of Alexandria and the Credit Woman's Club; board member of the St. Frances Cabrini Hospital Auxiliary for several years; member and served as president of the State of Louisiana Hospital Auxiliary; served on the board of the American Cancer Society and the Heart Association.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, J. Lamar Mizell.

Survivors: husband, Walter L. Coates of Alexandria; daughter, Janelle Mizell Allen of Alexandria; stepson, Norman Coates of Dallas; sister, Irene Birchfield Smith of Alexandria; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers: Billy Allen, Norman Coates, Bobby Smith, Rick Beck, Tommy Spencer and Todd Mizell.
