Ruby Carpenter Whitten
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Carpenter Whitten, age 81 of Grayson, were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 1997 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Rev. J. D. Enterkin, Rev. Bobby Cruse, and Rev. James Carson officiating. Interment followed in the Adams Cemetery near Kelly.
Mrs. Whitten, a homemaker, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia following an extended illness.
Ruby Lee Carpenter Whitten was born in Caldwell Parish on October 4, 1915 to the union of David and Pearl Lee Busby Carpenter. She was a lifelong resident of Caldwell Parish, where she was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church near Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her two grandsons, Kevin Whitten and Larry Dean Whittington. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include: her husband of 66 years, Trowley J. Whitten of Grayson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Guy and Glenda Whitten and Godrey and Jean Whitten, all of Grayson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Johnnie and Harry Whittington of Grayson and Jo Ann and Oliver Meredith of Cullman, Alabama; three brothers, Lloyd Cockerham of Shreveport, Elmer Carpenter of Jonesville and Jack Carpenter of Columbia; a step-brother, Floyd Cockerham of Grayson; two sisters, Eunice King of Houma and Clellan Thomas of Baton Rouge; and 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Richard Whittington, Harry Whittington, Chuck Barrett, Jerry Moseley, Gil Broussard, and Todd Whittington.
