RUBY EMMONS SHELTON
Ruby Emmons Shelton, age 91, was born on June 20, 1907, in Shelby County, Texas, to the late Emmett Cicero Emmons and Mary Hopkins Emmons. She died on Friday, February 26, 1999, as a result of complications from a stroke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George ``Bill'' Vardell Shelton, her son, Lewell Shelton, her sisters, Parma Emmons and Norma Rabensburg; and one grandson, Jimmie Joe Shelton, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Jimmie Joe Shelton, Sr. and wife Alberta and their sons, Matthew Shelton and wife Marie, Michael Shelton and wife Irene, and John Shelton and fiancee Kristen Elliott.
She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Jessica Shelton, Stephanie Shelton, Michael Shelton, James Shelton, Brittany Shelton, M.G. Shelton and Richard Shelton. She is survived by her sister-in-law, and dear friend, Lena Rae Jones. Also surviving her are her brother-in-law, Pat Shelton, and wife Dorothy of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Mrs. Shelton was a member of University Hills Church of Christ which she attended regularly until her death. For as long as her vision allowed her, she read her bible daily. She was a very gifted artisan and the beautiful quilts, crocheted items and needlepoint items she made will always be cherished by her family. The words of the book of Proverbs are her epitaph - ''She looked well to the ways of her household...her children rise up and call her blessed.''
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 1999, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks, with Reverend Larry Lacy of the Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.
