Ruby Merle Whittington
Ruby Merle Whittington, 81, of Liberty, died there May 12,2003, at Liberty Community Living Center.
Services were 10 a.m. today at New Day Church, with the Rev. James Lee Dawson officiating. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery in Gloster. Brown Funeral Home of Liberty was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Whittington was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Amite County. She was the daughter of John Perkins and Bessie Duck Spillman. She was retired from the cutting department at William Carter Co. She also was a member of ``her beloved'' New Day Church in Liberty.
Mrs. Whittington was preceded in death by her parents, John Perkins, and Bessie and Mack Spillman; her husband, Felix Whittington; six brothers, Johnny Perkins, and Virgil, Woodrow, Malcolm, Sidney ``Tobe'' and Tommy Joe Spillman; and three sisters, Hilda Predo, Vera Ditommaso and Effie Lashley.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Edna Whittington of Baton Rouge, La., and Lowell and Gwen Whittington of Smithdale; one daughter and son-in-law, Sara Whittington Reulet and Don Reulet of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren, Shana Copeland, Randy Whittington, Kim Debarge, Stephanie Jackson, Marilyn Etheridge and Chris Shultz; 12 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Betty Schrimpf of Centreville, Mary Ann Huff of Gloster, Janie Diamond of Allen, Texas and Marie Sitko of Hammond, La.
