Ruby E. Owens, 91
A service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dalton-Holmes Chapel for Ruby E. Owens, 91, Durant, who died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Brookhaven Nursing Center, Carrollton, Texas. Rev. Gloria McGee-Denton will officiate.
She was born Thursday, May 13, 1915, in Bingen, Ark., to John Walter Owens and Dona Beatrice (Power). She taught elementary for more than 33 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma in college. She also was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, making crafts, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was very proud of her flowers and will also be remembered for being a good cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Owens, sister Bernice Owens, brother Clinton Owens, and sisters Inez Graves and Lucy Cochneuer.
She is survived by her sisters Edna Truitt, Fort Sumner, N.M., and Lillian Withers, Carrollton; brothers Harry Owens, Carrollton, and Van Owens, Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with Mike Ernest, Joe Mabry, Raymond Owens, Tom French, David Williams and Truman Heron serving as pallbearers.
Family hour will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
