Long Illness Fatal To Rapides Man
Rufus V. Armstrong, 65, member of a Rapides parish pioneer family, died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans' hospital following a long illness.
Armstrong was born in Alexandria April 17, 1889, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Armstrong. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served in the United States Navy during World War I.
A pharmacist, he was associated for a number of years with the O'Shee drugstore and then with Walgreen's prior to his retirement because of ill health in 1950.
Time of funeral services has not yet been set. Dr. G. Aiken Taylor, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in National cemetery under the direction of John Kramer and Sons funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Zilla Shows Armstrong; three sons, Thomas A. Armstrong, Birmingham, Ala.; Rufus V. Armstrong Jr., Houston, Tex.; Pat B. Armstrong, Alexandria; one daughter, Mrs. Nelsen Mock, Alexandria; one brother, James M. Armstrong, Salinas, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Mitchell and Mrs. Mattie Reynolds, both of Alexandria.
