Russell Dean Gibson

Russell Dean Gibson, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the War Veterans Home of Jennings.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus #8978. He was a Shell retiree. Mr. Gibson was a graduate of Sulphur High School and played on the football team which went to the State Championship. He was also a WWII Navy veteran. While in the navy, he was a Coxswain Higgins boat captain in the battle of Okinawa.

Survivors include four children, Russell Ray Gibson and wife Ginger of Carencro, Gerald David Gibson and wife Janet of Sulphur, Don Neal Gibson and wife Vickie of Sulphur and Mark Douglas Gibson and wife Cay of Sulphur; two sisters, Joann Horton and Millie Cockfield; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Bernice Gibson; his parents, Arno and Paula Gibson; two brothers, Malcolm “Buddy” Gibson and Ray Gibson and one grandson, Andrew Gibson.

His funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery of Carlyss.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday.
