Ruth Lavone (Burdine) Jones
(February 9, 1924 - May 14, 2008)

Graveside services for Mrs. Ruth Lavone Burdine Jones will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield, Louisiana under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM until service time.

Born February 9, 1924 to John Burdine and Mildred Story Burdine of Burnt Bridge Road, Magnolia, AR., and deceased May 14, 2008 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Lavone married J.D. Jones in 1943 in Shreveport, Louisiana, moving to Winnfield, Louisiana in December 1945. She was the mother of three children; James D. (Don), Carolyn and Sarah. She was a loving and dutiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend.

Lavone worked at Margie Smith's dress shop and then began a career with Old South Life Insurance at Southern Funeral Home. She enjoyed her work and made many friends throughout Winn Parish. Gardening was a favorite pastime and despite great health disadvantages, she kept a lush, tidy garden until her death. Three years after the death of her husband in 1992, she moved to Magnolia, AR., her hometown. She had a number of family members and friends in Magnolia and enjoyed their love and company. She had a series of adverse health circumstances which she met head on using her courageous will and great Christian faith. Momma persevered through many life difficulties and left her family a legacy of 'never give up and do the very best you can'.

She is survived by her children and their spouses; James (Don) Jones, of West Des Moines, Iowa; Carolyn and Michael Beaudoin and Sarah and Howard Scott of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren, Darrell Jones; Barbie Jones Frizell; Cari Horton Owens; Jennifer Horton McVeigh; Abby Lemmons Rozelle; Rachel Adcock; Cassie Moss Gilmore; Shawn Moss and John Patrick Dewald; sisters Nell Olmstead, Melinda Daniels and brother Buddy Burdine, all of Waldo, AR., sister Jennie Tatum of Springhill, Louisiana, and 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who held her in great esteem and will remember her loving ways and courageous outlook.

She is predeceased by husband J.D. Jones; sons-in-law Jimmy Frank Adcock and Sammy Lemmons; daughter-in-law Jill W. Jones; sisters Aline Sanders, Salone Burdine and Mavis Stevens; brothers Relma Burdine, Charles Burdine and James Burdine, and step-mother Ordner Burdine.

Special thanks to Dr. Richard Haynie for tending to Momma with tenderness and care throughout her declining health over the last nine years. She respected you so much.

We love and miss you so much Momma. You are our hero. Don, Carolyn and Sarah
